BP Angola
BP Angola is the newest FPSO under construction for BP Exploration. Second Places were given the task to recreate the accommodation block and turret of FPSO BP Angola.
Aim
The aim of the project was to recreate the accommodation block and turret of FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) vessel currently under real work construction in an exact 1 to 1 model based within Linden Labs Second Life.
The Method
Using BP’s already created 3D CAD images we were able to recreate the build exactly. Adding in real world textures from images supplied to us from BP. We also recreate the loading procedure of a PIGGING system for pipe clearing in the turret, including telemetries, communications to the control room and radio communication on the vessel. Also included was the lifeboat launch procedure, a muster alarm system and control room control of most external lights of the vessel. The final part to be added was the helicopter landing pad and transfer procedure.
The Result
The project allowed BP employees from around the globe the ability to set foot and walk round the FPSO spotting design flaws, possible future problems (one of which was the location of the soup cauldron) and experience the comfort of the crew while on board FPSO Angola.
