Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council commissioned Second places to create the first major local authority Second Life Project in an aim to meet their ICT objectives.
The virtual world allowed the client to develop service delivery applications, consultation applications, SME support services applications and additionally community engagement applications.
The consultation application allows for 3D modelling so citizens can be consulted upon large scale projects which are proposed for the authority. The SME support services assist local SMEs in the leap into Second Life, helping the client to make the most of the available commercial opportunities. The community engagement applications offer the social networking capacity which has became popular in recent years with the rise of organisations such as Facebook and Bebo.

Second Places have proved to be an excellent choice for us in Tameside. The talented team have transformed our island into a brilliant showcase; demonstrating what is easily achievable for local councils. It is early days for us, and for RL Tameside Residents, and we are looking forward to using the island for events and consultation; potentially reaching out to residents that we have not been able to engage before. RL Tameside Residents are now able to access some of the services we offer through a 3D environment due to the fabulous building work done by Second Life. The Street of Services they have created for us is impressive!
