Second Places

Open Sim is an open source server for hosting virtual worlds similar to Second Life. Open Sim uses Second Life Library to handle communication between the client and server, so it is possible to connect to an Open Sim server using the Linden Lab Second Life client. Other clients for Second Life are also interoperable, since Second Life and Open sim use the same communication protocols.

There are hundreds of Open Sim grids some with over one thousand islands, with many thousands of users.

Open Sim allows Second Places to control the server hardware and security allowing for much more control. The servers can be hosted internally to an organisation allowing complete security for an intra environment.
